Well, the fact is, you are where you are today because you are good at what you do. Instead of attributing it to luck, hard work, or help from others, own your accomplishments and the role that you play in contributing to the success.
People recognised your capabilities and that’s why they voted for you, promoted you, or gave you the position. That itself is a powerful validation of your abilities and strengths.
Succumbing to self-doubts and unhelpful thoughts will only hamper you from making an impact.
CHALLENGE YOUR THOUGHTS
If you’re having self-doubts and think you’re a fraud, challenge your thoughts with this reality check question – How do you think your self-perception aligns with the reality of your accomplishments?
Other helpful questions you can ask yourself to counter imposter syndrome:
- What evidence exists that makes you less qualified than anyone else for the job or role that you play?
- What positive feedback have you received from colleagues, friends, or mentors regarding your abilities?
- How would your life change if you approached situations with the belief that you belong and have valuable contributions to make?
