DO YOU COMPARE WITH OTHERS?
We’ve all been there. Whether it’s someone in class, on social media, or in the office, we tend to make comparisons.
Comparisons make us feel lousy but here is the thing. You’re not alone. and you’re not powerless.
Today, we unpack the topic of comparisons.
COMPARISON ROBS YOU OF JOY
You know, that little voice inside your head that keeps whispering, “I wish I could be like her.”
Well, comparison is the silent thief of joy and personal power. The more you indulge in it, the worse you feel about yourself.
But guess what?
You can take control. It’s time to stop the comparison game and take back control and see the greatness in yourself.
FOCUS ON YOUR GREATNESS
First thing first, we need to recognise that comparison is an expression of insecurity. It’s not because we lack something, but because we do not feel good about ourselves.
You are good enough just as you are. You possess the talents, the strengths, and the abilities that make you unique and valuable. You are just as good as anyone out there.
Instead of keep looking over your shoulder and wishing you could be better, start looking in the mirror and recognising your greatness and tapping on your great potential.
CHALLENGE YOUR THOUGHTS
If you find yourself making comparisons constantly, try this method:
- Name the inner critic. Make it personal.
2. The next time it pops up in your head, befriend it. Ask it what is it that it wants. And if it’s feeling lousy, ask why.
3. Talk to your inner critic like you would a friend who needs a boost of confidence. Remind it of the greatness that you have and what makes you valuable.
Listen to it but don’t buy into everything it tells you. Challenge those thoughts. Remember, you have the power to overcome that comparison monster.
You can also challenge your thoughts with these questions:
- Do you believe it’s realistic to compare yourself to others given everyone’s unique circumstances?
- What do you think about the idea that everyone has their own journey and timeline?
- What aspects of your life are you grateful for?
- What small, achievable steps can you take to shift your focus from comparisons to self-improvement?
Comparison is an expression of insecurity. It’s not because we lack something, but because we do not feel good about ourselves.
